From World No.11 to World No.5: Hockey India, The Journey

town!!! Cheers to the Indian Hockey team, who has made their presence evident
by moving up in the scoreboard... Wondering on what this is all
about? The Indian
Hockey team has made the nation proud by getting into the group of Top 5 teams
in the FIH world rankings!
Yes, the Indian hockey team has managed to place them in the 5th
position as per the ranking made in June 2016 with the total points of 1543 which
is just behind England which has 1550 points in the points table. That clearly indicates
India is just 7 points away from the 4th position in the FIH world
rankings!
The
International Hockey Federation (FIH) has a ranking system in which the
National Hockey teams are ranked based on their game results. Hence the FIH
world Rankings entirely stand on the performance of the team in the field of
Hockey.
Here is a
quick recap on the awe-inspiring journey of the Indian Hockey team being the 5th
in the world!
The Year 2010:
Indian Hockey team on the 9th Rank,
- Being the joint winners in the 19th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup held in May 2010, India put a strong impressing.
- In October, Indian Hockey team won the Silver medal in 19th CWG.
- The 16th Asian games held in November got them a bronze in the tournament.
Ranked
at No.10,
- Indian team earned the Gold medal in the 1st Asian Men’s Champions Trophy in September.
- Following the win, they grabbed the Silver in the Champions Challenge Tournament.
The Year 2012:
With the 11th Rank,
- The year started off well for the Indian Hockey team with the Gold in the Hero FIH road to London in February.
- They received a Bronze in the 21st Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in the month of May.
- The 2nd Asian Men’s Champions Trophy boosted them with a Silver medal.
The Year 2013:
Back to being 10th,
- As the played the HWL Round 2 terrifically, they held the Gold medal in hand.
- In August, they got the Silver in the 9th Asian Cup 2013.
The Year 2014:
Moved up to the 9th Rank,
- A Silver medal was earned in the 20th CWG 2014.
- Indian hockey team won the IND-AUS test series (3-1).
- The 17th Asian Games 2014 was held, which brought them the Gold.
The Year 2015:
Jumped to the 6th Rank,
- Indian team stood with the Bronze in the 24th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
- India won the IND-JAP Test Series (3-0),
- The team had a great win in the European tour 2015 (4-1).
- In October, India won the IND-NZ Test Series (2-1).
- The Hero Hockey World League Final 2015 was held on November, where Indian Hockey team scored Bronze.
The Year 2016:
Among the Top 5 teams in the FIH world
Rankings, being the No.5,
- India scored Silver in the 12th South Asian Games 2016.
- The Indian Hockey team grabbed on their second Silver in the 25th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.
- Yet another Silver medal was received in the Hero Hockey Champions Trophy 2016 along with a lot of appreciations.
