Surender Kumar is a field hockey player who represents the Indian hockey national team .Surender was born to Malkhan Singh and Nilam Devi on 23rd November 1993 at Brana village,Krunal district of Haryana.Later he moved into the holy city of Haryana “Kurukshetra” where his hockey journey started.Surender plays as a defender in the Indian hockey team.
Surender Kumar has never had a hockey background , he started playing hockey during his school days at Royal Aryan Public School , Kurukshetra as his friends were all hockey players. After the initial days into hockey ,Surender felt his love towards the game and started spending more time in the hockey pitch rather in the classes. Surender was first coached by Sardar Gurvinder Singh.Surender slowly caught the eye's of the Haryana selectors by displaying his bold and commendable performance in the National level tournament's .In 2012 , Surender got his first opportunity to represent the blue jersey in the junior level.Also Surender was one of the main stays in the defense at the Junior Asia cup Bronze winning team in 2012.After his consistency in the junior internationals and domestic circuit Surender was given appointment in the Food Corporation of India .In 2013 , again he represented the junior Indian team in the Junior Hockey world cup,Sultan Johar cup,etc.Although the team finished 10th in the World cup 2013 tournament Surender was much appreciated for his fight till the death.

Surender Kumar's Route to Hockey
Surender Kumar also was bought by the Delhi Waveriders in 2015 infact now Surender has shown off some impressive performance to get himself retained in the squad for 2016 & 2017 season.Later in 2016 Surender made his debut for the Indian senior men's team at the Sultan Azlan Shah cup 2016 ,Malaysia.Although he had plenty of healthy competition for the defense position with the likes of Rupinder,Jasjit ,Raghunath ,Birendra Lakra and Harmanpreet Singh in the team still Surender managed to show his unique skills to get himself a place for the Champions Trophy again .Although people say it was because of Birendra's injury that he got his place in the Champions Trophy , surender proved all wrong with his unique tackling and clearing skills in the defense were he was much appreciated by many International hockey critics.

Surender is a well disciplined and talented defenders.Surender is one of the rare players who has never changed his postion from his intial days.Most player's would have always shifted thier postion either from forward to defense or mid-field to forward but in Surender's case he always has just played the postion of a full back.Surender is much kind of a tradtional hockey player who likes to hit the ball rather the slap-shot.Surender Kumar has the tendency to play the way the coach has set the strategy.Also Surender has the boldness to throw his body to save the ball.Although it is dangerous Surender has the quick ablity to shove away himself from the danger.Surender always wants to keep improving his skills that he is never content but to become even better .

Surender comes from a very modest back ground , his father Malkhan Singh is a farmer and his mother takes care of the house .Surender has two younger brother’s named Narender and Ankur.Ankur has already started following his brother’s foortprint to hockey .Ankur who is in 12th grade is also a stipend player in Food Corporation of India , Haryana where his brother is also plays in the domestic circuit.Surender unlike most other sports personalities , has a shy and calm personality .He is not a person who likes to be much in front of the media’s ,he always is happy to hear to his favorite music’s and have a simple life. Surender's role model is Gurbaj Singh the Indian -midfielder.
Surender has also got himself the tag "Olympian" in a very young age and is going to be one key player for the Indian Men's team in the future.!
