The Australian women’s team is back on the winning
track keeping their dream of being part of the qualifiers alive. After losing ineffectually in their first two matches, they desperately needed this win and they won it
like a boss!
For the Indian team, it must have been difficult to
exhibit their performance under pressure and due to their lack of experience in
the Olympic Games as this is the first time for the team in Olympics. Let’s all
cheer the Indian Women’s team for taking it to the Olympics and, hold on they
still have a few more matches left, hope to see they move up in the points
table.
Match Summary:
From the very beginning the Aussies displayed skilled performances
and were very much confident on their pace which gained them the momentum. In
the first few minutes of the match, they took a lead with 1-0. Though India
earned a couple of penalty corners they did not use it well. The Indian defenses were playing hard but the
attacks needed enhancement.
Unlike Australia who used every chance they got and made
the most out of it as Georgina Morgan was striking hard at the goals and gained
more for her team. At the end of second quarter Australia was on the lead with
2-0 on the board.
In the third quarter it was back to back goals from
Australia putting them on a 4-0 lead and made it difficult for India to win the
game. Savita, the Indian goalie tried all her best but was rarely successful in
saving the shots. Kenny, the Australian
player added one more on their card by making use of the penalty corner. It was
5-0, much favorable for Australia.
In the final minutes of the match, Australia hit a goal
to make it 6-0. And the sole goal for India was hit by Anuradha Devi who was only one to score for India and made the scoreboard
6-1, with Australia on the upper hand!
