This match showed why the German's are ranked world no.3 and also revealed why they are the defending champions .The New Zealand team had a clear shot at the medal until the 55th minute as they were 2-0 up .But the comeback by the german's from a 2 goal defeceit to win 3-2 in the last 10 minutes showed their appetite for another Olympic medal.

Spain Vs Argentina
The Spanish team ranked 11th is the lowest ranked team to qualify for the quarter-finals.The Argentine's scored a early lead and the game was well poised for an Argentine victory but the Spain striked through Quemada in a penalty corner in the 56th minute .But the Argentine's came back strong and earned their lead back through a penalty stroke by Gilardi Juan.

2)First time in 40 years , the Australian men's team not qualifying for the Semi-finals.
