A Golden Whistle and a Technical from India in the Rio, Olympics


Guess who will be taking part in the upcoming Olympics other than our players! In the field of hockey not only Indian players will show their calibre in Olympics but also the Indian officials will. 


Shaikh with the Golden Whistle: 

From Asia only two officials will be taking part in the olympics, the name from India is Shaikh Javed Nuruddin, has been selected for the upcoming mega event at Rio.
During 17 Asian Games in Bronze medal match, Shaikh Javed Nuruddin was honored by International Hockey Federation (FIH) with Golden Whistle for officiating in 100 International matches. He is the fourth umpire in Asia and the second in India to get the Golden Whistle from FIH.
The Man with a Golden Whistle 
In 2000, Shaikh at 24 started his umpiring career in Mumbai after passing umpiring exam. He became an International Umpire after three years and received the International batch from FIH in the first tournament. In 2005, International Hockey federation promoted Javed into the Outdoor Promising Umpires List. Later, he didn’t look back, but kept marking achievements by officiating in hockey at International matches. In 2009, he was promoted to Outdoor Grade I International umpire by International Hockey Federation. He majorly officiated four Sultan Azlan Shah Cups, two Olympics qualifiers, FIH’s Champion Challenges and World League competitions. Till date he has officiated in more than 25 International competitions. In 2013, International hockey federation finally promoted his name in Outdoor World Development Umpire panel.
He also played hockey at National and state level and represented state in various championships.  

Anjali as a technical to judge in Olympics: 


In a proud moment, when Indian eves are participating in Olympics, at same time Anjali Sharma will also be a  part of the Olympics as a technical official.
Anjali Sharma who hails from New Delhi is well known technical official in Indian Hockey. In 2015, she served Hockey World League semi-finals held at Belgium as technical official which made her pitch to Rio de Janeiro, the mega sports event.
In 1988, she started her hockey career and played various national tournaments.  Later she started her second innings as umpire in 1997. She was awarded with ‘The Raja Ashman Shah Award’ after being declared outstanding performer of the Asian hockey federation technical official course conducted by the Asian hockey federation.

A Woman who knows the technicalities 

Then, she started her next phase of Umpiring at International level as technical official. She judged around 12 international tourneys include 17th Asian games, Incheon, XX Commonwealth Games, Scotland and many more. She also worked as technical director in 10 national championships includes major tournaments 5 & 6 Hockey India tournaments, women national championship and 43th Nehru Hockey tournaments. She also served as three national championship as technical official.
