Women's Field Hockey Team at Rio, Olympics 2016: A Preview

There are two pools A and B, with 6 teams fighting it out for four quarter final position in each pool. We can say that every single match has its own meaning, a little mistake or one slip-up could prove costly.

Indian Women’s Hockey Team at Rio, Olympics 2K16: 

The Olympic Women’s hockey event is taking place between 6th of Aug to 19th of Aug 2016 and the game with a crucial fight for the GOLD MEDAL is scheduled at 17.00 on 19th of August 2016, at Deodoro Olympic park. If we focus on women’s competition, the Netherland’s are aiming to make history by becoming the first women hockey team to claim three successful Olympic titles.
First time in 36 years Indian women’s team will be participating at the Olympic Games. The Indian Women’s team achieved a fourth place finish at the Moscow in the year 1980 Olympics. Team India is at present coached by Australia’s NEIL Hawgood and led by Sushila Chanu and currently ranked 13th in FIH World Ranking. In India’s pool all teams has better rank in FIH World Ranking and already had experience of Olympic Games. We hope the Indian team will perform well as they don’t want to miss their chance at the Olympics.

Key players: Vandana Katariya and Rani Rampal two strikers are the main scorers in the game.


Japan:

India’s first fight will be with Japan on 7th Aug 2016 according to the schedule. Japan holds the 10th rank in FIH Hero world Ranking. About the Japanese’s team, its renowned for being exceptionally quick and they are the master’s of counter attacking hockey, which will be the useful assets as they try to negotiate their way out of the pool and try to secure a place in the competition.

Key player: Team’s captain Miyuki Nakagawa is the most influential and experienced player and has represented her country over 280 matches.


Great Britain:  

Great Britain stands 7th in FIH Hero world ranking. India’s 2nd match is with Great Britain on 9th Aug. The team of Great Britain placed a bronze medal at London 2012; they will be even aiming higher at Rio 2016. The Great Britain’s fifth place finish at the Hockey Champions Trophy on home soil earlier this year was below expectations, as the team’s coach Danny Kerry will be expecting their best at the Olympics.

Key Player: Goalkeeper Maddie Hinch, whose brilliance in the shootout helped her team overcome world’s number one Netherland’s in unibet Euro hockey championship in London.


Australia:

 Team India will be playing its 3rd game with Australia, in FIH Hero World Ranking the position of Australian team is at number 3. Australia has the honor of winning two Olympic gold medals and two World Cups. Now the Indian Women’s team will be practicing under the guidance of the Australian coach, who might add on the skills to the Indian Players as he knows the positives and negatives of the opponent team.

Key players: Team captain Madonna Blyth, She is an inspirational, all time Cap holder defender and penalty corner expert who is the Jodie Kenny Player of the year 2015, one of the best goal scorer.


U.S.A:

India’s 4th match is with US who is at the 5th position in the world. Team claimed remarkable fourth place finish at the 2014 Rabobank Hockey world league. In 2016, USA snatched the Bronze medal at the Hockey Champion Trophy held in London.

Key player: Captain Lauren Crandall is a key player for the USA. She is a good defender, who has over 270 international appearances.


Argentina:

Silver medal in 2012 Olympic Games and the Bronze medal in Hockey World Cup 2014 brought up the team! With the major wins in their hand they also have decent experience in playing high level tournaments.

Key player: Florencia Habif, the FIH Young Player of the year 2014 and the exceptional forwarder Maria Granato are rated as two of the most exciting talents in the team.
