Chinglensana's venture to Hockey

Chinglensana earlier started playing in 2001 for a local club MIERRA and then took part in the State Level tournament at the Junior level . He then represented Manipur in the under 14 inter school Hockey tournament in Delhi in 2006 where he performed quite well. He was subsequently coached at the Punjab National Bank Academy. In a year’s time, he started hard training under Brojen Singh, a former Indian player. He was his mentor and support through all Chinglensana’s tiffs and struggles. Broken was the one who provided him with sticks, shoes, shorts and t-shirts. Under his guidance, Chinglensana played for Assam at the 2009 National Games in Guwhati.

This was a turning point in his career. As said by him,”I turned out for Assam in the 2009 National Games as my home state Manipur did not qualify on that occasion. Soon, I got an offer to play in the Mumbai Hockey League for Customs. My stint in the Mumbai Hockey League helped me to land a job in Western Railway. I represented Railways in the 2010 Surjit Singh Hockey Tournament, where I was declared the best player of the tournament.
This young lad mastered his skills at various positions, being able to play at forward, midfield as well as in defense. His family was also a very big support to him throughout his journey.

During August in the same year, India beat France by 2-0 in the Opening Euro tour wherein one of the goals was from Chinglensana Singh in the 18th minute.
