India gave its best performance in London Olympics 2012, pocketed 6 medals which includes two silver and four bronze.Rio de Janeiro is special for Indian Hockey because the national women's team had got itself the Olympic ticket after a 36 year long wait. Indian women squad bagged Olympics seat on the basis of its performance in hockey world league. The Netherland and England have already qualified for Rio through the Hockey world League semi finals.
The winner of the Euro Hockey championship will qualify for the 2016 Olympics as European continental champion, opening up a further qualified spot which India secure as the team who ranked
highest at the hockey world league semi-finals not already qualified.Indian eves now will participate along with nine other nationals at the upcoming big event. Last time, Indian women hockey team featured in the Moscow Olympics 1980, finished at fourth position.

Now after three decade, it has been historic moment that Indian eves’ going to take part in the event but the ahead journey will be very tough.Indian hockey fans and coach have showed confidence for better performance in the upcoming mega event but players are under pressure as the day’s passes. Most opponent teams are experienced and have foreign exposure. Sports physiologists are also telling players how to deal with the pressure and the physique being a key factor which will also test the Indian eves. Another fact, In Olympics only 16 members will be allowed instead of 18 in the International tournaments. Indian eves does not have strong hand on passes & shots, now they have to slowly counter the opponents otherwise they will be muscled out by the rivals.Physical conditions of team seem to be better but still need more endurance to avoid tiredness problem. The team has Physiotherapist from two or three years but rival teams have been practicing from last ten years. In Olympics 16 players will have to match the work rate of 18 which need certainly more hard work. There are two Para-mount things on the team’s think tank fitness and convert shot corner into goal, these areas demand special attention. In modern hockey, penalty corners played important role in the match decision.

Indian hockey lovers hoping that our girls will make us proud at the Olympics platform. It will be miracle if the team returns with a
superior win ratio.
