AKASHDEEP SINGH INDIAN HOCKEY PLAYER:BIOGRAPHY , PERSONAL LIFE,AWARDS & MORE 

Akashdeep Singh, is a professional field hockey player who was born on 2nd December1992 in Punjab . He is currently 22 years of age and plays the forward position for the Uttar Pradesh Wizards the Hockey India League and the Indian hockey team. This budding talent began his journey at the age of 19 in the year 2013 and played for the Delhi Waveriders till 2015 followed by his entrance into the Uttar Pradesh Wizards in 2016.At the age of 12 , he followed his brother’s footsteps into hockey and continued coaching as his interest grew keenly . He made his first debut in England at the Champions Trophy 2012 and continues to tremendously succeed in most of his challenges. Akashdeep, who belongs to Vairowal village near Tarn Taran, converted in the penalty shootout along with two other players from Punjab,Rupinderpal Singh and Dhramvir Singh to help India grab gold in hockey after a gap of 16 years. He was and continues to be one of the key players in bringing victory to the Indian team.

Akashdeep Singh started hockey in secondary school and joined Guru Angad Dev Sports Club for his initial training and development after which he enrolled into the PAU Hockey Academy in Ludhiana 2006 and then the Hockey Academy in Jalandhar . His talent and dedication stood out to great levels as he was selected for the Delhi Warriors in the Hockey India League initially in 2013 . 
Akashdeep Singh is a specialist striker .He has excellent stick work and quick passing skills .With his high pace and stick skills has already marked a high statement in the senior league.One of his strong skill is his reverse stick shot .Even if the ball is for a free right side hit , Akashdeep turns to his left and shoots his favourite shot .Also Akashdeep is never low on confidence , he always tries to dodge past the big names of the opposite defense.Even if he loses the ball , he has the tendancy to try for another go to dodge them past with his fake dummies and succeeds.
 He is a bold and daring forward player with his concentration and efficient gameplay. On June 21st, 2013, India beat France by 6-2 with breath taking goals by Akashdeep Singh in the 13th minute along with few other prominent players. Despite the fact that he had to sit out of the tournament due to his injuries in the 2013 FIH world cup in Hague , he continued strong with his recovery and was back on the field in the Asian Champions Trophy , November 2013. The Indian Team beat Oman 3-0, with India opening the scoring against the run of play in the 19th minute by Akashdeep Singh’s strike. On 7th June 2014,he scored 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes set up India’s 3-2 victory over Malaysia in the Men's Hockey World Cup, emerging as the star of the event. In the same year on September 30th , he scored an outstanding field goal which helped India beat Korea 1-0 and gain entry into the finals of Men's Hockey Competition of the 17th Asian games for the first time in 12 years in Incheon.
 This young talent continues to outshine one tournament after the other, followed by the Indian Team thrashing Japan and winning the Hockey Test Series in May 2015 in which one of the goals was scored by Akashdeep Singh. His tremendous game plays led him to become one of the highest paid Indian player when he was bought by Uttar Pradesh Wizards for on September 17,2015. During that period , he was one of the highest paid Indian players with a whopping sum of 84,000 USD.As quoted by Surjit Singh ,the head coach of Surjit Singh Hockey Academy Akashdeep Singh earlier trained ” From a village bit too the highest place in HIL Auction, Akashdeep surprises all,” Hindustan Times ,19th January 2016 .
There is no obstacle to his energy and drive as he continues to score goals in most tournaments he sets foot in. He was instrumental in equalising the score 1-1 against Germany in the Olympics Champions on 28th November 2015. This fresh talent has not gone unnoticed, he was nominated with Birendra Lakra, P.R Sreejesh and Manpreet Singh for the Hockey India best men’s player nomination.

Four years and still counting, Akashdeep Singh is in good form and is getting better with time. He has scored 4 goals for Delhi Waveriders so far which was in the span of 3years but scored many more for the national team. He was awarded the Best Junior Player of the Tournament Award in Men’s Champion Trophy 2014. His most recognised moment was the field goal scored by him the 17th Asian Games which helped the team reach the finals. Though quiet in nature, he stands firm for his team , is dedicated in complete seriousness and promotes the vibrant team spirit . As quoted by Akashdeep,” We realise the importance of this tournament as the outcome from here will chalk out the future course of action in terms of team combinations, how good will the the present strategy work for us in the long run and which are the areas that need immediate attention.” This talented 22year old was congratulated by Hockey India after he completed his 100 international caps during the side’s 1-0 defeat against New Zealand in their third match of 6-Nations International Tournament that took place on 30th June 2016. Recently as seen on the 1st of July,Md.Mushtaque Ahmad , Secretary general Hockey India said,”Akashdeep is a part of a new generation of hockey players who have been instrumental in providing energy in the team at big game tournaments. He is a skilful player with great team spirit and very good tactical understanding.” Akashdeep's current status is reaching tremendous heights as he continues to press on towards his targets.

He holds good bonds with his family and is especially close to his role model, his brother Prabhdeep Singh who was a Hockey player himself . He awaits the arrival of his brother ,” It’s a matter of pride for the country. He has worked hard and I am happy that he helped the country end the medal draught,” Prabhdeep said, who plays for Punjab and Sind Bank in Jalandhar. “I celebrated with friends and family. Though he’s moved on to see promising levels ,he is still in touch with his roots and knows that is what makes him grounded to reach even greater heights.
