S.V. Sunil, The Star Forwarder
The Superfast Somwarpet Vittalacharya Sunil was born
on May 6th 1989 in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. His father
Vittalacharya worked as a carpenter and his mother Shanta took care of him and
his brother, who later became a goldsmith. At a very young age it must have
been really hard for him to realize the loss of his mother as he lost her when
he was four. Being born to a low profile family, he had difficulties growing up
but he has always had his passion for hockey, he used bamboo for hockey stick
during his younger days.
For the love he had for Hockey, he chose it as his profession and always dreamed of playing for his nation; the dream as indeed come true!

The leading light forwarder started off his Hockey
career in the 2007 Asia Cup in Chennai with the senior Indian Hockey team, and
what’s more special is that India won the Tournament; He must be lucky with the
stick! ;)
He also served the team in the year 2008 for the
Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, in which India got the Silver medals.
Sunil is a stirring personality for not just scoring
on the field but also for the way he handles hurdles in life. During his injury
in the run up to the 2010 World Cup, his Hockey career came to a halt. Sunil
took up the rehabilitations and came back like a Champ in the selection trials
held back then.
In the very next year 2011, he earned all the fame as he played for the
nation in the Champion’s Challenge and scored four stunning goals, the most by
any Indian forwarder. Now you know why he was the title holder at the very
early stage of his career.
S.V. Sunil is a true rock star on the field as he is
not just the fittest but also the fastest which makes him one of the finest
forwarder of the team.
Sunil was part of the team in the Hero Champions
Trophy 2016 and won the silver medal.
Sunil as of now has 187 international caps and has scored a total of 59 international goals which is truly noteworthy!

In the start of the season, Sunil played for the
Punjab Warriors. He was bought by the Punjab franchise for USD 42,000 after a
grand auction with his base price being USD 13,900.
S.V. Sunil and his Dreams
Sunil likes to dream not just while he’s asleep but
also while he’s awake; His dream now is to take part in the 2016 Summer
Olympics in Rio, Brazil and win the Gold medals for his team,he says! He has a strong
passion for his dreams as he has made them come true, let’s wait for the
Olympics to see what the future holds for him.
