Rio Olympics: India vs German League Match Result and Highlights

The second league match for India in the Olympic 2016 was against the two less to top rank holder, Germany. After the win against the Ireland in their first match, India gained confidence and exhibited a strong spirit in the very beginning of the game and made it difficult for the opponent to score. Being the defending champions, Germany fought till the last minutes and sustained the momentum as they win India with a lead of 2-1.

First Quarter:

  • The match started off really well as both the team were trying variations in their game-play, where the Indians concentrated more in flank play and the Germans did more of physicals tackles.
  • On an unfortunate note, Ramandeep Singh was hit badly on his left hand during the 9th minute of the match.
  • During the 13th minute, Akashdeep Singh showed up to nice switches but Nikkin’s goal was easily saved by the opponent.

In the end of first quarter Indian and Germany were yet to score, on the scoreboard it was 0-0.

Second Quarter:

  • It was a good start for the Germans as Niklas Wellan hit a GOAL in the 3 minute of the second quarter.
  • The Germans were well arranged on the field and their defense was impressive which made it hard for the Indian to take it to the goal.
  • India earned a penalty corner in the 18th minute, and it was used brilliantly by Rupinder pal Singh as he hit the GOAL to the right of the German goalie with a swift flick.
  • There were a couple of chances for India to score but it was well saved by the German goalkeeper.


In the end of second quarter, the scores were leveled to 1-1.

Third Quarter:

  • Chinglensana took control on the field from the left flank and moved forward which in the end gave way to a penalty corner for India.
  •  Rupinder again tried to hit it hard but this time it was saved by the German goalie.
  •  India had good attacking skills but they have to put more efforts on using it to score more. Also Germany made gave a tough job with their first class defense and goalkeeping.

In the end of third quarter, the scores remain 1-1.

Fourth Quarter:

  • The last quarter of the match started in favor to the Germans as they gain a penalty corner. But the Indian backline were clever enough to clear it out!
  • India tried to find the space to hit; for Germany with a good defense it was easy to swipe out the chances for India.
  • Another penalty corner for India in the second half of the match, and it was once again cleared out.  
  • During the last minute of the match Christopher Ruhr scored the winning GOAL for Germany put his Nation on the lead.

In the end of fourth quarter, German outdid India with a lead of 2-1 on the cards.
